Step off Berlin’s frenetic Kurfürstendamm and through the wrought-iron doors of Louisa’s Place and you enter another tempo entirely. The boutique hotel occupies a listed 1904 townhouse at No. 160, its handsome sandstone façade hinting at the turn-of-the-century grandeur waiting inside.

First impressions
We were greeted warmly and looked after with care and attention through all of our stay. With only 47 keys, the atmosphere is intimate; voices drop to a library hush the moment you clear the front door.
The Deluxe Suite
Our home for the night was a Deluxe Suite. At roughly 60 m² (that’s larger than many Berlin flats) the layout reads like a miniature apartment: separate bedroom, living room and a fully equipped kitchenette stocked with everything needed and a Nespresso machine. Three-and-a-half-metre ceilings, tall sash windows and pale damask curtains flood the space with north-east light and frame postcard views over the plane-tree canopy of the Ku’damm.

Design treads the sweet spot between heritage and modern convenience. Period stucco and herringbone floors are counter-balanced by discreet tech, a smart-TV that swivels toward the velvet sofa. The king bed’s mattress leans medium-firm; paired with glazed windows, it delivered Berlin’s rarest commodity: silence.
Breakfast in the courtyard
Morning begins in the ivy-hung courtyard, once the building’s carriage yard and now a sun-trap café bordered by hydrangeas. Breakfast is a civilised affair: eggs made to order, shot glasses of cold-pressed juices, and a buffet groaning with just-baked Laugenbrötchen, flaky butter croissants, artisanal cheeses and a charcuterie spread – all whilst you hear the chirping of the birds. Service is unhurried yet eagle-eyed – they were great.

Louisa’s Spa: pocket-sized but perfectly formed
Below street level hides one of Louisa’s trump cards – a bijou wellness area few boutique properties in Berlin can match. The 10-metre “endless” pool comes with a counter-current system; paintings of Potsdam’s palaces on the surrounding walls lend the whole space an almost whimsical air. After laps, we migrated to the Finnish sauna and neighbouring steam room; on both afternoons we visited, we had them to ourselves. For exercise enthusiasts, the adjoining gym is small but smart, featuring treadmills, free weights and a VAHA interactive fitness mirror that streams guided classes on demand.
